About

The practice behind the framework

Hough and Associates, Inc. is the research and practice studio behind The Frustration Condition. Founded by Dr. Tim Hough, the practice grew out of a 331-person doctoral study of engagement and frustration in everyday business work — published as the operating companion The Frustration Condition (2024).

The framework names the structural mechanism that produces the disengagement engagement surveys eventually score. Its three load-bearing artefacts — the five Frustration Architectures, the Cross-Functional Listen, and the Three Doors decision discipline — are the result of two decades of operating-side practice and the doctoral research that grounds them in evidence.
